Winter has come!

Seniors

Our senior teams start their winter season under new coach Liam Evans this Saturday, April 22. Our Seconds and Firsts play Ringwood at Napier Park commencing at 12:15pm and 2:40pm respectively.
Our thirds play North Western Titans commencing at 1pm, again at Napier Park.
We are always looking for new players so why not dust off the glove and boots and come on down.
Please try to get down and watch a few games. Fixtures are available here.

After game event

Hang around for a meal, watch some footy, and enjoy a night at the club to bring on the season.
Feel free to share this with any of your friends and family to join in!

Juniors

Junior games will commence on Saturday, April 29.

BV fees

Everyone, and I mean everyone, who wants to play Winter baseball this season MUST register with Melbourne Winter Baseball League before they step foot onto a diamond.
These BV fees provide insurance to all registered players, as well as covering some of the administrative costs of running the competition.

WBC Club Fees

WBC fees are now due and payable. These fees are paid directly to the club and help us to cover costs such as ground rental, umpires, coaches, baseballs, utilities etc.
Unfinancial players may find themselves made unavailable for selection, even if this means that we have to play without a full team. If you are unable to pay your club fees by May 15 please contact Adrian Dunn or Andrew Ferguson prior to May 15 to confidentially discuss setting up a payment plan.

Results from the Firsts’ Summer Grand Final series

The Firsts went down 2-1 in their 3 match playoff series against Upwey-Ferntree Gully.
Tyler Evans started game 1 and showed great composure, throwing 4.2 innings and giving up only 2 runs off 5 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. We out-hit Upwey 9 to 8, but were unable to string together multiple hits in one inning. Jordy Ley, Tommy Maxfield and Damon Hill lead our hitting with 3, 2 and 2 hits respectively.
Our bats fired up in game 2 as we defeated Upwey 7-4. We scored single runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings and then exploded in the seventh with four runs behind hits from Tommy, Liam Evans, Mitch Wilhite and Finn Weichard to lead 7-1. Upwey fought back to 7-4 in the 8th innings however we held them off to take the series to a winner-takes-all final.
In the final playoff match Upwey took advantage of a couple of errors to score 4 runs in the second. We were unable to capitalise on out-hitting Upwey 10-6 in the match, leaving runners in scoring position on multiple occasions. Upwey’s Jarrod Turner threw a complete game and was a deserving winner of the best player in the series.
Despite failing to bring home the chocolates, we have once again proven the strength of the club with all of our players having progressed through our junior ranks to play seniors with Waverley.

Senior Presentation Night

Once again we had a very successful Senior Presentation night at Mulgrave Country Club with 122 people celebrating .
Three wonderful supporters of the club:
were awarded life membership of the club.
Liam Evans won the Geoff Paice MVP with a runaway victory in the vote count, while Eloise England was a deserving winner of the Doug Clarkson Best Club Person award.

Junior Presentation Evening

Our Junior Presentation evening was very successful with well over 100 people in attendance.
Many thanks to everybody who assisted with the evening and a particular mention to Danny Walk who once again did a magnificent job with the team photos. Contact Danny or Adrian if you missed out on purchasing your photos.
A huge shout-out also to all the coaches who gave up the time to look after our junior boys and girls at training and on match day.

IBA Friendship tournament

Four teams (including one from Japan) played each other several times at Napier Park from March 30 to April 2. The series opened with a speech from Monash mayor Tina Samardjia.
Many thanks to all who helped, in particular to Steph Evans, Jacquie Bright, Leoni Branson and Chris Evans for their magnificent efforts in producing meals for all the players.

Congratulations to the U14 Rangers team on clinching the State series recently.
Special congratulations to Waverley players Noah Traplin, Jonathan Park, Brodie Trevean, Cooper Busch & Ethan Nakamura – of our U14 State winning premiership team along with coaches Micheal Nakamura & Matthew Trevean who were all part of the champion team.

Looking to improve over Winter?

Playing Winter is a great way to work on your baseball and we encourage you to join us in the upcoming season. You can contact me if you are interested in playing with the Blackcats under our new coach – Liam Evans. Of course, we welcome players currently playing Winter ‘Ball with other clubs!!

Cricket players (Senior and Junior) welcome!

Do you have friends who are into cricket? Well playing baseball is a great way for them to hone their skills and stay fit in the winter. Tell them to contact me or Adrian and we’ll let them know when to come along for training.
Just be careful! I started playing baseball to improve my cricket and never played a serious game of cricket again!!

MPTF Update

Please help us as we build funds to finance building our Multi-Purpose-Training-Facility.
Any support, no matter how small will help us towards our target. All donations $2 and over are tax-deductible. You can set up a small recurring donation if you wish.
We have also set up jars at the bar and canteen where you can get rid of that pesky shrapnel and contribute to a good cause. All funds received will go to the MPTF.
Click here for more information about the project. You can donate from that page, or you can click on the thermometer below to go directly to the donations page.
