There is a critical shortage of umpires accredited to umpire senior baseball matches in Victoria.
BV has launched a new initiative to increase the number of umpires. They will be providing FREE umpire accreditation courses through the BV Behind the Mask Program.
BV is launching this program with community and association level courses, led by National Umpire Director Brett Robson at Knox Baseball Club. This is a fantastic opportunity for juniors and seniors to get accredited for free, which will give you the chance to complete paid umpiring assignments throughout the season.
The Behind the Mask Community Umpire course takes just 3 hours to complete and runs from 9am to 12pm at Knox Baseball Club on Saturday 23 September 2023.
The more advanced Association Umpire Course will run across Saturday 23 (1pm to 5pm) and Sunday 24 September (9am to 1pm).
This initiative is part of BV’s ongoing commitment to recruit, train, and support the next generation of baseball umpires to ensure a safe, fair, and fun competition for all. Baseball Victoria needs your help. The course will introduce you to the basic umpiring skills you will need to get started. Umpires who wish to refresh their skills are also welcome to attend.
Program participants will receive many benefits, including additional education, equipment incentives. We know many juniors and parents help out with umpiring. This is a great opportunity to further develop your skills and umpire on Saturdays for Women’s and/or Metro League games, which won’t interfere with Sunday’s junior competitions. Successfully completing the training gives you the opportunity to umpire games and earn $25 for each game you umpire.
