Firsts Report from Geelong – Wildcats 10 defeated Geelong Baycats 4
The Wildcats made the long trip to Geelong worthwhile by winning 10 runs to 4 over the Baycats on Saturday afternoon. The Waverley bats fired taking full advantage of the big Geelong ground, out hitting their opponents 13 hits to 9 with 2 home runs, a triple, 4 doubles and 6 singles and scoring in 6 of the 9 innings played. They backed up with some outstanding defensive plays early on to keep Geelong scoreless until the 6 inning.
In the bottom of the first inning Jamie Papanicolaou gloved a hard come back line drive and threw over to Jake Sheldon-Collins at first base for the double play. Then Geelong’s chances in the 1st were snuffed out when Ned Hargreaves made an outstanding play, taking a ground ball out the back of second base and making the throw across to first.
In the bottom of the 4th, Jordan Ley turned a double when he tagged the runner advancing to third on a ground ball and threw across to 1st base where Jake took the ball on the stretch to make the double play.
Jamie started on the mound for the Wildcats giving up no runs, walking none and striking out 6 while giving up just 3 hits. Jamie threw 51 pitches over 4 innings and even though he was outstanding once again, unfortunately within the rules of scoring, 4 innings of pitching does not qualify the starter to earn the win. That honour went to team boss Adam Bright who was considered the most effective reliever, pitching 2 innings with no earned runs and striking out 2. Reece Longstaff then came in to throw 2 innings and Finn Weichard closed out the game in the bottom of the 9th.
Jordan led the Wildcats offence once again, going 3 hits from 5 at bats with a home run that scored 2 runs in the top of the 3rd. Jordan also hit a double and a single. Reece also had an outstanding day with the bat going 2 from 4 with a huge homer in the top of the 5th, scoring 2 runs. Tommy Maxfield went 2 from 6 with an RBI. Jake 2 from 3 including a double and an RBI. Ned went 1 from 4 with a triple. Damon Hill 1 from 4 with a double and an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Finn collected a single and an RBI, Mitch Lording hit a double, and Mohi Kahui collected an RBI.
The Wildcats travel to Essendon for the big top of the table clash on Tuesday evening before returning to Napier Park for a home game against Sandringham on Saturday.
Go Wildcats!

Firsts report from Essendon – Wildcats win 3-1
Tyler Evans was superb on the mound throwing a no hitter over 5 innings, striking out 8 batters and giving up just a single walk over 72 pitches. The game was called early due to bad light, but it was enough for Tyler to earn a much-deserved win.
Things looked a little shaky at the start for the Wildcats with Essendon taking advantage of two errors to score the first run. The Wildcats defense quickly settled holding the Bombers scoreless from then on. The Wildcats equalled the score in the top of the third when Ned Hargreaves got on base after being hit by a pitch then stole second base. He made it to third on a wild pitch then scrambled home on another wild pitch.
The Wildcats scored another run in the top of the 4th when with bases loaded, Liam Evans was walked in on a base on balls to Reece Longstaff.
Hits were hard to come but Tommy Maxfield wasn’t deterred coming up with 2 hard hits one of which scored Mitch Homfray for an insurance run in the top of the 5th. Damon Hill collected 1 hit.
The win puts the undefeated Wildcats on top of the Premier League ladder. The team is back home on Saturday against Sandringham.
Go Wildcats!

Seconds Report – lost 10-9 vs Geelong
In contrast to last week, we were in control of the game for 90 minutes today but then allowed Geelong back into it with a combination of walks and errors.
We started well offensively and took a strong lead into the bottom of the 4th off the back of some great team-first hitting – but we struggled to find the zone and execute in the field late in the game when the pressure was on.
Well done to Cam Branson who made his 2s debut and started on the mound for us.

Thirds report: 2-all draw
Playing Geelong who were unbeaten & averaging 13 runs per game, we kept them to 2 with a lot of excellent defence
Trouble was, we only managed 2 ourselves
So another draw (#3) for us, but a really important one looking forward to when the split happens.
Jeremy Valley got the start in his first game in the 3’s & this will not be a one time thing. Jez was really tidy in a 107 pitch complete game & while they got 10 scattered hits, he only gave up 3 walks & plugged one … awesome effort
Conversely we only had 1 hit, compliments of Ethan Holloway that scored our first run. Ethan then squeezed Ollie in for the tying run in the last inning, with a perfect sac bunt … exceptional
Whilst we only had the 1 hit (against pitching that wouldn’t be out of place in the 2’s) we did manage 8 walks & 4 stolen bases which was pleasing.
With this young group attitude & intensity are key & we must be ready from the first pitch !
Let’s shake up 3rd placed Sandringham next Sunday

4ths report: Waverley 27 Geelong 1
Well, this is about as perfect as a game gets. Batted around the order at least once every inning, topped off with a 16 run final inning, most of which were scored with 2 outs. Ethan Nakamura pitched a flawless game after the first inning, and would have pitched a shutout if it wasn’t for one run off a popup that was dropped after being dragged in to shallow outfield by the wind.
Everyone had a great game, special shoutout to Jed who stepped up at the last second after a late call off put us down to 8 players. 4 hits and 2 walks. Also thanks to Michael Nakamura for playing with us. Fantastic game. Good to see after the heartbreaking loss last week.

The stray cats, won 7-6 against upwey. Cruising at 6-0 with Hilly dominating, upwey all of a sudden strung a couple of blind squirrel moments together and before we knew it the game was tied. Hilly moved to third and couldn’t stay out of the game making out after out. Special shout out to Eunho Richard Park helping us out who crushed and iron man Vaughn Evans who put his broken body on the line for the club. Also Declan Strong who lived up to his name in catching his first game using a fielders mitt. Ask to see his hand next time you see him. I’ll give myself a little shout out for resisting the temptation to not throw strikes against an ex Waverley hanger on.
